Oooh, it makes me wonder...

So the other night I was coming out of the gym (that's right, I still go to the gym) and I drove to Giant to drop off a RedBox, and as I was coming back to my car, I realized there was a little white dog in the car next to me.  With no windows cracked.  As I surveyed the car, I knew I couldn't just leave it there.  It's been one of the hottest summers to date, and I knew if I was hot, the poor little pup would be even more hot.

So I did my civic duty and called the police.  And the woman gave this sob story how her "husband dropped the car off" and she "didn't even KNOW the dog was in the car" and "thank you so much for telling me" and blah blah blah.

But that's not the point of the story.

The point of the story is I came to this realization that I'm soon going to have a son who's going to be watching and learning from ME.  He's going to see the choices I have made, and I'm going to be accountable to him.  From here on out.  From an innocent, "Mommy, what do I do?"  to a perhaps arrogant, "Well YOU did it when you were my age!"

So if my son was with me, and he was taking mental notes, I would have wanted him to see his mom call the police on behalf of a panting pup in a locked up car.  I would have wanted him to learn that you don't just stand back and watch injustice.  The attitude of "don't get involved" has left the world sore and desperate.  Women are abused and children are mistreated because people don't want to get involved.

It makes me wonder what he's going to see in his lifetime.  And if he'll become bitter, or if I can teach him how to love and pray and respect people.

Yesterday we hit the third trimester and tonight we will celebrate by going to Carrabba's for some yummy food.  (If you remember, we went to Country Tables for the second trimester celebration...this is slightly more upscale...)  As if our son knew it was his special day, he didn't stop moving and shaking all day long!  He was actually moving the covers last night!

In other news, Andy's parents bought us a camcorder and mailed it to us and we got it yesterday!  Andy's extra excited because one of the things his dad has always done is record all their life moments.  Andy will now continue the tradition, and I'm so glad :)
